January 13, 2008: During the North American International Motor Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Mazda unveiled the Furai, a supercar designed to bridge the gap between single-purpose racecars and street-legal models. The vehicle, Mazda indicates, was inspired by the Nagare and features the Courage C65 chassis and a 450-horsepower three-rotor rotary engine. The Furai, which means “sound of wind” in Japanese, will also run on 100 percent ethanol that is produced via a partnership with British Petroleum (BP).
